I have a Cert IV in Building Biology (which, in a very simplistic nutshell, looks at the way the health of buildings (and the way we manage them), can affect the health of the occupants, eg air pollution, mould, electromagnetic radiation etc).  Over the last 12 months or so I have been doing talks (The Healthy Home Series) at Narara Ecovillage through which I educate people about how to improve the health of the buildings they spend time in, so as to either improve their health or prevent potential health challenges.

My talks have also looked at how to design a healthy home, and how to avoid renting or buying a “sick” home.  I also do home audits (as each building is different and I can’t cover every possibility in my talks).

Talk outline:

  • What is building biology?
  • Sick building syndrome
  • What can make a building sick?
  • Mould and the health impacts of mould exposure
  • How can buildings get water damaged?
  • Are you feeding mould?
  • Prevention and detection (an introduction)
  • Q&A
