The subject of our talk this month is ” No Such Thing as Waste”Lisa Wriley will share her latest projects developing the EARTHCARE game, her deep desire for a local REUSE CENTRE and is very happy to talk about ‘waste’ (the verb), changing our thinking from waste to resource and worm farming as one of the strategies for cycling “waste”. Bring your worm questions!

Lisa trained as a teacher and has worked in environmental education over the last 25 years. She was awarded the Australian Association of Environmental Education (NSW) Community Education Award in 2019 and has been actively involved in Kariong Eco Garden since it began in 2005. She has gained a reputation as the ‘worm lady’ due to her enthusiasm for composting and recycling food scraps in schools with the help of Worm Tubs made by the Peninsula Men’s Shed. Lisa has been employed part-time as a community campaigner for the Total Environment Centre and Boomerang Alliance since 2010 and is committed to making sure governments of all levels listen to the people. She chats with Scott Levi for Waste Free Wednesday on local ABC Radio on a regular basis and her theme song (thanks to the wonderful Charlie McGee!) is “There is no such thing as waste”.

Bring your own snacks, drinks, and perhaps a folding chair. Most venues have some kind of under-cover area but hats or umbrellas for weather protection would be a good idea. You are welcome to explore the beautiful community garden after Lisa’s talk. Lisa will also set up a number of Earthcare games and you are welcome to have some fun playing. We will also be facilitating a produce share and the seed library and encourage you to bring along some goodies to share such as cuttings, plants, seeds and garden produce. Children are welcome. We hope to see you there!
