The owners of a huge citrus orchard at Somersby have approached Permaculture Central Coast for help. They have acres of “imperfect” lemons and no viable market for them. The property is about to be listed for sale and they hate waste as much as we do, so they are going to let us use the orchard for a pick your own event. Lemons are the primary crop, but there are a few mandarin and orange trees throughout the orchard and you are also welcome to pick this fruit.

How it works

Buy a ticket for your preferred time slot on either Saturday the 20th of August or Saturday the 27th of August for just $10. All profits go to Permaculture Central Coast. You only need one ticket per car. If you are currently experiencing financial hardship this event is free. Just select “Low waged or unwaged” for your ticket.

Don’t worry; there are acres and acres of fruit so we are sure that no matter which one-and-a-half hour time slot you choose you will go home with loads of citrus. There are four time slots available on each date. Please arrive and leave within your chosen times.

The orchard is in Somersby. The exact address for the venue will be sent out to the email you use to register.

Turn up on the day at the start of your time slot with buckets, tubs, baskets or bags and take as much fruit as you want! The citrus have some surface blemishes but are totally delicious on the inside. The orchard has been professionally managed in the past and sprayed with copper-based fungicide, but not for at least two years, so the fruit is free from synthetic chemicals.

Each session is limited to 20 cars so we can manage parking and safety. You are welcome to bring friends and family, provided they come in the same car. We also recommend you bring water, sun protection, gloves and secateurs. Lemons can be spiky! If it looks like rain you might like to include wet weather gear.

Children are welcome but keep in mind that the property has unfenced dams and the usual hazards associated with a working farm so please supervise your children closely. Permaculture Central Coast will not be able to offer child minding.

There is no toilet at the venue.

Ticket cost is $10 per car.
