Guest Speaker: Gavi Duncan

Gavi Duncan is the Cultural Services Manager at Bara Barang, Kariong. Bara Barang, previously part of Youth Connections, aims at economic development for young adults. Gavi has been there for 8 years. He has a wealth of knowledge on the history, philosophy and local Aboriginal area. Gavi runs tours and speaks at local events and universities to keep Aboriginal Culture alive.

Dr David Suzuki, the famous Canadian environmentalist, said that if you want to understand sustainability then you need to study local indigenous culture.

Gavi will be speaking about how traditional Aborigines have looked after their land.
How communication worked within and outside their tribe ?
How traditional skills and crafts are continuing to be taught ?
What bush tucker is still around that we can recognise and find ?
What is the future for Aboriginal culture ? How do you integrate this into today’s modern life?
What can we all learn from traditions before they are lost ?

Where

Tuggerah Hall, Anzac Road, Tuggerah, directly opposite Hungry Jacks – within easy walking distance of Tuggerah Railway Station.

Parking is  accross the road in the council carpark next to Hungry Jacks . Please do not park in the Pizza Inn carpark on the left hand side .
